Smart Duplicate Not Working with Components

So today I loaded Maya, and all of a sudden Smart Duplicate doesn't work at all with components (faces, edges, vertices).  I'vce tried resetting preferences to default, reinstalling and uninstalling and installing again.  Nothing has fixed the issue.  I don't know what's wrong or how to fix it.  I need this tool since I'm a modeler, and using the extrude tool manually and changing the subdivisions from 7 and changing the offset then moving faces every single time I use the tool takes way too much time for me to be productive.

Please help!

Please check and show your settings for

Tool Settings -> Smart Duplicate Settings -> ... .

You can enable this feature individually for Objects and Components.

Sorry for not responding, been busy with moving.

Yeah I kind of knew that, since it's not enabled by default and you have to check that box to turn it on.  It wasn't working despite being enabled.  I was able to fix it, though I'm not sure what I did amidst the multiple reinstalls with different methods that did it.
