Selection tool working incorrectly

The selection tool isn't working. When selecting a geometry component (verts, faces, edges) and I click once on it, it selects a random other face usually on the bottom of the object. Maya otherwise works. Is my graphics card just bad?

Example: I am putting my mouse where the red X is in the picture. But it is selecting something on the bottom of the object. You can see my tool settings. It is not set to nearest component.

Screenshot (16).png

I have tried:

Resetting selection tool, resetting Maya preferences, creating a new scene, trying with a new object, updating my drivers. The Graphics driver says it is up to date.

Computer specs:

Version is Maya 2020

Computer: HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs3xxx OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Home (64-bit)

Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz

Graphics: Intel® UHD Graphics 26.20.100.7926

is that only with this paticular object, or with everthing? is there any history on the object?

Its multiple objects, usually larger ones with more faces.

The object I'm showing I made with berzier curves revolved into a NURBS then converted to polygons. I tried remaking it from the original curve, and deleting history. It previously had some error about UVs not existing but doesn't anymore.

I tested with new objects, like a default polygon sphere. It had trouble picking the right faces still. With a small cube, it did it correctly briefly.

could you upload the whole scene? have you also checked if some kind of selection symmetry is on?

Hi,

Does seem to be graphics card related from your description.

Try changing Preferences > Display > Viewport 2.0 > Rendering Engine to DirectX 11 and then restart Maya.

Certified driver versions can be found here - not many Intel ones on the list and the UHD one has a slightly different driver version so that is something else you could try.
