Problem with centering model's middle Edge Loop

I have a bit of a frustrating issue at the moment. I've just recently finished retopologising my model, and I'm at the stage where I need to align everything up, duplicate and flip it, combine the two halves, and merge the centre vertices. However, despite my sculpted model being in the centre of the Translate X, Y, Z of the Attribute Editor, as well as my retopologised mesh, whenever I select the centre edge loop of the mesh, and set the Absolute Transform to 0, the centre Edge Loop is stretched to the left. And where to begin with, it's more or less ligned up with the model's left side and the nose, setting the Absolute Transform causes it to completely overlap the nose. If I carry on with the process and combine the two halves, the nose is stretched, and vertices down the centre, at the back of the model, still overlap and look messy even if I adjust the Merge threshold. I've tried experimenting for ages, but I can't seem to fix the issue. 😞

I would upload my save file, but I get an error about the content type whenever I do. 😕

zip the scene file first before uploading .

I can't seem to do that either. 😞 I tried zipping it with 7Zip, and even though the file is only 160kb, the page takes a moment to respond, but then just takes me back where I can edit/post the message again.

I first tried it last night and then again this morning. 😕

Okay, so after some testing, it looks like the forum doesn't like 7Zip files, but is okay with WinZip. Odd.

Great, someone will take a look for you.

Cheers.

Hi
I would try to set the middle edge manually in the center, Simply hold "x" (snap to grid) while moving in the x-axis.
Also, see that even after aligning the center edge to x, the back of the head has still some faces that slides to the other side. In order to make a proper duplicate, you need all you geometry to be on one side only.

Hope it helps

Thanks for the suggestion. That's the problem I can't seem to get right. When the middle edge is brought into the centre, those back edges curve inwards like in your gif, which I can't seem to get right, and the nose is made fatter/broader. I keep trying to move the model to the left in the hopes the centre edge won't have to be moved too far over, but it's not working out. 😕 I've even tried deleting the centre edges and re-doing them...

Is there any way of moving the edges over a bit and then setting a new centre point? A bit like in Blender where you can change and apply a new rotation and location?

The reason this is happening is because your middle is rotated a bit and not truly aligned with the X axis.

You do not need to move your model, simply try moving vertexes and edges in order to make to center edge be exactly on the X axis and everything else to be on the right side of it.

Right now, the back edge are not curves inside, they are simply on the other side of the axis (left to the x zero).

Before Duplicating, also make sure to clear history and that your Pivot point is sitting exactly on the X axis.

See attached gif for an example of how i would approach such an issue.

Hope it makes sense

Thank you SO much! This seems to have helped a lot! 😄 There's just one little snag though. If I mirror or combine both sides and adjust the Merge threshold, it doesn't seem to work. Even if I set it to 0.01. I get this happening whenever I move the centre edges:

One other thing: how did you get your background so it was black and white? Did you just set up an image plane? That's quite useful for seeing if things are aligned. 🙂
