polygon subdivision axis

I need to divide polygon cylinder into equal parts but i am not able to divide it while i am trying to decrease the sub axis division count it it was changing its shape.

 

what to do to decrease sub axis division in polygon cylinder without changing its shape 

 

i know it is a silly doubt but i been stuck here since so many days i amnot able to find solution for this pls help me guys

Your cylinder is changing shape as you decrease the subdivisions axis amount because there aren't enough polygons to support its roundness. If you hit the '3' key (smooth mesh preview) you can take the subdivisions axis number down to 4 before the cylinder loses its roundness.

Sorry it didn't work the way I want....
Actually I want to increase the no of subdivision axis without change in the shape

Requirement -i need to do a animation for very 5 frames by increasing its no of divisions and it's size starting from 6 subdivision axis

So please suggest me a solution for my requirement

Start with your 6-sided cylinder, and click Edit Mesh->Add Divisions. You will then be able to key the subdivision levels every 5 frames. See attached image and example file. (Created with Maya 2017.) If you open the Maya file, click the play button to view the animated divisions.

It was not working it was saying to check the script for errors
Is it possible to be in round cylinder shape for 6 subdivision axis

No. See my original reply. Six sides is not enough geometry to create a round shape.
