polyBoolean / cut not working

2019.2. The attached scene has a tiled object. The idea is to cut with the area the box intersects so the tiled object is broken into two pieces. An extrude then boolean doesn't work, neither does creating a curve to project and cut. Manually using the multi-cut tool instantly hangs Maya... ??? Can anyone make this work or is Maya just not meant for modeling?

Hi Paul,

is working fine here, also slicing with the Multicut tool worked well .

Try with this setting.Boolean.jpg

If the pieces disappear just move the cube slowly until the Tile piece appears again.

This kind of precise cut is better done with the Multicut tool.

Doesn't work for me even when moving the cube. Having to move a boolean object to make it work makes accurate boolean work  impossible and shows how far behind Maya is compared to other 3D apps.

A Multicut hangs maya & requires me to kill the process.... 😕

I was able to get a boolean working by going back to 2018.6 and moving the cube... not a great workaround. 2019 didn't work at all.

Hi!

I can confirm that there are problems using these meshes with Booleans,

but the Multi-Cut (Slice Tool) works absolute fine here with this non volumetric mesh

and with snapping enabled you get a perfect cut, it can't be more precise.

(Tested with Maya 2019.2)
