Pivot Point won't move when selecting anything other than an object

Hello all, I have a problem where the pivot point for a selection will not center itself on the selection automatically when selecting. The pivot point, instead, remains where the last center pivot point was. I tried deleting my preferences and restarting with default preferences and it worked temporarily, but soon enough, it breaks down again. Is there an option or hotkey that I may have pressed on accident? How can I fix or avoid this?

just holding "d" and in empty spase off scene then see "reset" left click

I had the same problem and reseting my tool did the trick. 

The easy way is to select the gizmo that doesn't work (translating, scaling or rotating) and go to the tool properties (you can acces it double clicking on the icons on the left) and at the top of the popup "reset tool".
