Noob Problem with Extrude

Hello! When I extrude faces, the face being extruded always shrinks, shrinking more the more I extrude it (e.g. - If I extrude a face too much it essentially becomes pyramid shaped). How can I extrude a face straight out without experiencing this? I have been following a maya tutorial series and this does not seem to be happening to the person who made the tutorials. What am I doing wrong?

Hello,

So I would first suggest that you go to the Extrude options (little square box next to extrude command from the EDIT MESH menu) check to see if offset has a value, if it has something other than zero, then this is the cause. A good suggesting I have heard in a number of places and I always do to make sure I am starting from a neutral starting point. Reset to default by clicking EDIT > RESET SETTINGS from EXTRUDE TOOL OPTIONS.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the help! Though I don't think that's my issue. After playing around some with it - I think it just might be how the extrude tool works. if the edges leading to verticies around a face being extruded point inwards, the extrustion will shrink those faces the further it's extruded. If the edges point outwards, the faces will grow as their extruded. If you know a way around this (to always extrude the face straight out) let me know - and thanks again for the answer!
