Need Mentor for Modelling and Rigging Canadarm

Hello Maya community, my name is Matthew.

I have a science project currently going on, and I need to model the Canadarm. I asked my science teacher, and she said that I can model it in 3D, so I decided too. But I don't have much experience in Maya. I need somebody who is very good at modelling, and knows about texturing, and rigging / animation. I am free Monday - Friday, and Sunday.

Thanks,

~Matt

Hey Matt,

I'm Matt as well! How much of this are you trying to model? I realize you are likely in school and have no idea the work put into the modeling, rigging, etc of this, but I can direct you.

Congrats for your interest!

Cheers!

Thanks Matt!

And yes, I am in school. I do understand how long it takes to make it, but I was wondering if you could help me with rigging/animation, texturing,  and modelling on simpler objects, so I can transfer it to the project I am working on. Thanks for responding to me 🙂

Have an amazing day,

Matthew

Hey Matthew,

Sorry for the slow response, I had some work stuff come up. Do you still need help? I can take a look at things this weekend perhaps if your dealine hasn't passed.

Dear Matt,

Thank you for responding. And please don't worry about responding quickly, I can wait 🙂

I would like some help or at least a pointer to some good tutorials / Reference material.

The deadline was actually before you first responded to me, but I got away with something else.

Even though the project is done, I would really like to get into Maya, it has interested me for 2 years.

Thanks,

Matthew

It's kind of hard to know where to direct you for tutorials and reference without a particular goal in mind. If you are still working on your Canadarm animation I would suggest looking into creating joints and set driven keys for your rigging as a starting point. There are a lot of materials out there for learning that bit, some better/more descriptive than others. From there you could create a very detailed rig and control system if you chose to. In the past I've created some control scripts and windows that control character movements, and these can be as complicated, or simple, as your imagination allows.

Are there specific questions you have, or are you just looking for general info?
