Multi-Cut Tool not working in Maya 2022

Hi! I had install new clean version of Maya 2022 but Multi-Cut Tool not work at all. I pressed Ctrl-key, in object mode (and all others too) and I can`t see any edge loop lines, tool not snapping to verticeses and works if make manual cut beyond object place only (attached). I use Maya approximately 5 years and last my version was 2018 and all worked perfectly. Restart not helped. The tool works fine sometimes but randomely and I dont know by what reason. Language of keyboard is ENG, I not installed any scripts and plugins. I need to work, please help!

The tool works like this only.

I have the same issue. Have you found a solution yet?

Hi,

In instances like this a good place to start is with the graphics driver.

Things to try.

1) If you are on Windows try going into Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences > Display and change your Viewport 2.0 Rendering Engine (at the bottom) to DirectX 11 and restart Maya. (DirectX 11 can be a bit more forgiving than OpenGL when it comes to graphics card drivers)

Note that you need to restart Maya when you change the viewport rendering engine.

2) Check and update your graphics card drivers to the certified version for your graphics card and version of Maya

If that doesn't work you can try resetting your Maya preferences. (which will also reset the Viewport 2.0 Rendering Engine if you changed it above)

Hi - I have tried both on Win 10 and my iMac and can not reproduce this.

Can I get exact reproducible steps (or .gifs work well)? I've tried slicing and using the Ctrl key and can't see anything.

I'm assuming you're using 2022 and not the updates (I can't repro in any).

Did any of Brents suggestions help? If resetting the preferences did, and you happen to have the older corrupt one still around, could I please get it.

I'll keep trying but thought I'd give you a heads up.

Thanks, Catherine

hey a.andriyanov,

could you zip up that scene that has the problematic cube and attach it here please?

I notice in the image you posted your cube wireframe is white. Did you change any of the color settings for geometry component types? If not, how did you get the cube to show up with a white wireframe?

Have a look at your settings and let us know what they are. I've tried changing all the colours and the tool still works. Do you have some Selection Constraint option applied?

Maybe try the Reset Settings button at the bottom of the tool's options:

@brentmc This is happening to me too, this is a new bug in Maya 2022.2 specifically, it never happened in 2022. Once the tool has become corrupted in this way there is no way to fix it and even restarting Maya has no affect, the tool is still stuck in this broken state forever. Perhaps an optionVar is getting corrupted or something? I'm using DX11 viewport. The multi-cut cursor remains active even though you're in the move tool as well.

One time I hammered a bunch of keys and spazzed out and somehow I exited this broken mode and the tool went back to normal. Now it's broken again. Edit, I just spazzed out and hammered a bunch of keys again and fixed it. Lots of right clicking and I think I did some undo?

Hey, so this bug happens so frequently to me now I was able to find a workaround. When it occurs if I press space bar to switch to four view and then tap space again to switch full screen into a different camera the tool goes back to normal and I can now select verts again. Not sure if that's the fix for everyone, but that works consistently for me.

Another clue here, I'm using a hotkey to enter the multi-cut tool using this command

dR_multiCutTool

I noticed in 2022.2 the command now echos as

MultiCutTool

Perhaps the older dRaster command is contributing to the problem? I'll update my hotkey and see if the problem goes away.

Update, I can confirm that my new hotkey has no affect and the bug still occurs. Tapping space bar to go to four view, then tapping back into the camera I started it fixes the problem 100% of the time, for me. What an annoying bug.

In the attached picture your object is highlighted white. Did you change any color settings?

For example, when I enter the multi-cut tool on a selected object the wireframe of my object goes cyan/light blue (like if I were in edge component mode).

No, it's part of the bug, it gets stuck in that weird mode. Oh sorry you weren't asking me.

no problem. I would love to get stuck in said 'weird mode'.

so far no such luck on my end.

Do you have a scene file @malcolm_341 that easily reproduces the issue?

could you zip up your preferences and upload them here also?

Sorry no scene file, but I can narrow it down to a new scene from a fresh Maya boot. Maya starts in the perspective cam as usual in my custom work space, from there I created a plane primitive using the shift + RMB menu, I subdivided the plane using the interactive sliders and then entered the multi-cut tool and the bug occurred.

It feels like it happens more often with a fresh boot of Maya and not changing the camera before entering the multi-cut tool. Here are the prefs.

thanks,

still unable to repro though with your prefs and with invoking the runtime command dR_multiCutTool using the set hotkey (cmd + shift + x). I am on Mac so it doesn't go to DirectX display so perhaps that's a factor.

Could be, I'm on PC using directX rendering engine. There is potential this is a driver issue, the problem started occurring after upgrading to 2022.2, but I also updated my nVidia driver at the same time so unfortunately I have two variables.

UPDATE: Like an idiot, I had turned off the Grid button in the UV editor. Sorry!

I'm working to cut UVs on a Skillshare tutorial. Doing all the steps right and haven't had an issue before cutting a seam into a UV, until today. I try with my mouse over the UV Editor, then hold shift and press X. Nothing. I go to the UV Toolkit Menu, Cut and Sew, Cut. Nothing.

Help Please. I would upload the scene, but it's giving me an error every time, which is just a cherry on top. Ugh.

Try to zip the scene file and upload the zip.
