Moving UV shells is slow

This is most likely due to the amount of geometry there is, but unfortunately, based on a book I'm following, which probably has some dated workflows, a high poly sculpt has been baked to a retopologised mesh, and now it needs to be unwrapped. This mesh consists of around 30-70K verts/tris. I'm finding, as I'm unwrapping, that moving individual UV shells is quite unresponsive. There's always a pause before they move.

I'm guessing nothing can be done, but was wondering if there's any setting I could adjust to help make it more responsive...? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. Although, I don't really want to be learning another piece of software on top of all the ones I'm currently learning, including Maya. This is my first time getting familiar with Maya's UV Editor too. Plus, I'm on too tight of a budget to be paying a subscription fee to make the most of UV Layout. 😕

Hi!

I don't have problems here moving UV Shells for objects with 80 000 triangles.

Did you use any auto-layout tools without deleting history later?

Do you have any background image visible in UV Editor?

At first I recommend to delete history.

I make a habit of deleting the history regularly, but I may have forgotten. I'll give it a try though. Thanks. I've experienced the same issue on both my latop and desktop. And my desktop is much faster. I've only used the Planar unwrap so far.

I think that's fixed it. 😄 Selected every object with Ctrl, Shift + A and deleted the history and now moving a UV shell is instant! Will test it further though and report back.

Hi!

To delete history on all objects you can simply use "Delete All by Type -> History", there is no need to select anything.

Even better and quicker. Thanks. 🙂
