[Mirror Tool] +/- direction does not seem to be working in Maya 2019

After installing the recent upgrade, it seems to me that the Mirror Tool is not working properly. When I switch between the +/- direction options, nothing actually happens to the mesh or the Gizmo. I can rotate the Gizmo to get the desired angle of reflection, but it is less functional than the 2018 version. To invert the direction of the Mirror Tool, it appears to me, that the the Gizmo needs to be manually rotated 180 degrees every time.

If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know. Thank you

Hi!

There seems to be a problem with

Cut Geometry

Turn this "off" if the two halves don't intersect.

Everything else seems to work as in Maya 2018.

The Mirror Tool does work if "cut geometry" is switched off, but this is also an essential feature of the tool. If cut geometry is switched off I'll spend more time stitching everything back together. It dramatically impacts the workflow which was previously possible with 2018

I've been having the same problem. Is there an actual fix than just turning the cut geometry option off?

The same thing is happening to me, and since I'm working on characters, this tool is absolutely essential to my workflow. I'm going back to 2018 for now. I've noticed that if you offset the tool, it works sometimes, but acts differently depending on the mesh you're using the tool on. I've fiddled with every setting and everything that usually would cause such issues such as
-Deleting history

-Unbinding skins

-Restarting Maya

-Freezing Transforms

-Messing with axis, direction, merge method, and threshold, and smoothing angle all did nothing.

-I thought it could be something to do with UV preservation, however, that didn't seem to do anything either.

The only thing that did do something was changing the offset, but the point of mirroring is to sometimes not have an offset at all.
I do hope this gets fixed soon and hope that 2019 becomes as stable as 2016 or 18 was. For now though, I have to go back to 2018.

I have found that if I delete the center line the mirror tool works as I
would normally expect it to. It is a pretty annoying interruption to the
world flow though.

if that works I'll have to try it, but that small interruption to the workflow is enough to make me not use it if I'm honest. interesting find tho.

Try selecting the whole object before mirroring. That worked for me.
