Maya 2017 Bevel, Skewing Vertices

Hello everyone!

Just noticed a really bad behavior with the bevel in Maya 2017. When doing a bevel on a shape like the one showed in the screenshot it is displacing some of the verts making the bevel tool in my opinion unusable as this will keep skewing your model and mess it up making it non symmetrical.

You can almost fix it with the "Force Parallel" but this then skews other verts.

Anyone know if this is fixed in any of the updates 1,2 or 3?

Hi!

You are right about this issue, although i am not sure if this is by design.

The difficulty for an automated bevel will be more apparent in 3D View and with a higher settings for Segments.

The options for you are:

A) Enable "Force Parallel"

B) Set an other value for Miter Along

C) Set an other value for Miter Along and combine this with "Force Parallel"

D) Correct the result by hand using snapping with vertices, or model it complete by hand, if you only need 1 segment.

B) and C) should work for you.

You may report this problem (bug?) to Autodesk, but as i said, this behavior could be by design.

Alright, I think ill report it as a bug as in my opinion the default behavior of the bevel should not yield a result like this.

Thanks for your time!

Cheers
