Insert Edge Loop Tool drags geometry downwards

Hello everyone.

I was trying to start modeling a very basic house, after i extruded in thickness some of the faces of my plane (Which i set to have one division in both Height and Width), i wanted to eliminate a wall, but not entirely. So i used the Insert Edge Loop Tool, but when i confirmed the use of the tool, the edge loop dragged down all the edges on the Y axis it touched. I think i can get around this by adding points one by one with the multi cut tool, but even if that simply solves it (not to mention how tedious that would be), for future reference i would like to know the causes of this, or if there's a quicker way than to add points one at a time. I wouldn't want to model some big modern villa and break the whole thing with an edge loop, and then discover that not even the Multi-Cut fixes it.

I also made a Screencast.

Screencast will be displayed here after you click Post.

Hi there,

Could you post a screen shot to your problem? There doesn't appear to be a screen cast

For some reason my screencasts are still processing, so here is the screenshot, i'm also including it in the attachment section just to be safe.

I'm still a bit confused as to why this is happening. I would recommend you to retrace your steps again. It might be those tiny steps that you think maybe trivial that cause these problems.

For future reference if you're planning to move an edge without deforming the shape in the modelling toolkit there is an option called 'edge slide' under 'transform constraint' . As for the mesh deforming the moment you place the edge loop this is the first time I'm coming across something like this.

Why don't you try building the wall first without having to extrude from the floor (plane)?

I managed to finish the house through other methods, but the mistery of the edge loop wrecking my models remains. The moment a model starts getting complicated i have to switch to the Multi-Cut, otherwise edge loops just mess everything up.

Hi!

Please upload a scene-file.

Make sure you don't have edge flow ON , or reset the tool....that's what it looks like from here.

A scene file before i add the edge loops right?

Hi!

No i need a scene-file that shows the problem, so after adding edge loops, (but with history, so i can check your settings).

But you can also add a Maya-scene from the previous state, the more information, the better.

It seems resetting did the trick. IT didn't work the first time, for whatever reason, but after doing it the third time the edge loops worked normally. It was the edge flow on, but i still don't understand why resetting it once didn't work.

Thank you everyone.
