Insert Edge Loop Symmetry Not Working

I am fairly new to Maya and I am working with adding edge loops to harden edges. I have applied symmetry to the World X on the Move Tool and the object is centered at the origin. I have reset the Insert Edge Loop Tool as well however when I go to insert a new edge loop, a preview is not shown on the opposite side and the end result is an incomplete edge loop that is not symmetrical to the one I placed. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi,

It may be failing because your model is not symmetrical. (see pic below)

Your options are to 1) use symmetrize on your mesh to make it symmetrical or 2) use topological symmetry instead of 3D symmetry.
