Importing STEP files

I have been sent a CAD model created in Solidworks 2016 and sent to me as STEP models.

I can get them to import OK, and they look really good, complete with screw threads, etc, but each component that I load is not attached to each surface, the components are coming in NURBS and not polygons which is OK as if I convert them to polys the poly count goes through the roof anyway, and I know I can join the seperate faces together as polys anyway....

BUT whatever I try I cannot get any of the surfaces to join up when the models are imported initially (i.e. NURBS Surfaces)..

I have attached one of the components if anyone wantsb a look to let me know what I am missing.

Cheers

James

It would be better for you to import this into CAD and then out as a FBX...Maya doesn't play nice with STEP files.  I deal with STEP files a lot and have never had a good experience importing them into Maya.

Try the attached file.

What CAD software do you use to import either Solidworks or STEP files into that exports FBX?

Just been in touch with a friend who runs an engineering company that has a copy of AutoCAD and sent him the files but he cannot import or open them?

Do you know of any other software that will read STEP files and convert them into something Maya can read?

My post above...I attached a FBX file that I exported out of Autodesk Autocad.  I imported your STEP.  Not sure what your friend is doing but I can import STEP.

Older AutoCads will not. I have 2017 and you can import step and export fbx no problem!
