How to turn of symetrical editing? I already tried looking it up

Note: I am very new to 3D modeling, and Maya.

I already found a couple fourms describing how to turn on or deactivate topological mirroring. I cannot figure it out. I keep searching everywhere and have become discouraged and stopped working on simple models because when I try controling the verticies or the edges or part of the model, it will mirror what I do on the other side.

It began as I can recall when I turned on duplicate special a few days ago, I don't really know if that is what caused the issue. I have reset the tool several times and I have tried going into the Modeling Toolkit to turn it off. I see symetry, below in perenthesis it says '(Select an edge,)' and everywehre else I look, I would gather that it is turned off. I have gone into the preferences as well for the Modeling Toolkit. I would very much appreciate someone's help, I would be able to accomplish the most simple models! 🙂 Thankyou

I just figured it out! I had to go into move tool options and deselect reflection! #inept #notanymore
