How to transform construction history into attributes?

Is it possible to have construction history and then tie them into the objects as attributes rather than deleting them, if not can the team please consider doing it, maybe as a bonus tool.  One quick example would be extruding geometry to form a rope leading to a bomb, then be able to convert that extrusion into attributes which can later be key framed so as to not accidentally delete the history when cleaning up the scene.

This does not answer my question.  So in short there is no feature even as a plug-in/script for Maya that can convert construction history to attributes for an object.  Also I do know about adding attributes, that was not my question.

Hi!

No, you can't do this,

but you can lock nodes:

Locking the attribute doesn't allow me to keep that locked attribute after deleting the history.  But thanks for your help though.

Hi!

If you just want to prevent all history from one object being deleted, Maya offers several options:

1. Create Reference (you can't delete history on referenced objects/scenes)

2. Create Asset (Attributes can be locked.)
