Well, if you feel you need to force the interest, then maybe it's not really for you? Why did you start modelling in the first place? Do you like mechanical objects, do you want to animate a Pixar movie, or are you just attracted to the software and technicality of producing amazing renders?

I'd say to anyone, that if you have an interest in something, usually starting with inspiration is a very good start. Read blogs, hang out a CG forums, watch movies that are completely 3D animated, or movies with great SFX.

It sounds like you are unsure about putting more time in this "passion". Take it from someone how has been through several jobs, don't do something for the money. Only do it for the money, if money is the ultimate goal.

Passion is a dangerous word that modern life coaching types use to define something that is meant to shape your whole world. You might be passionate about playing guitar, but you may not necessarily want to start a band and tour the world? Maybe you just like 3D enough to enjoy it on a hobbyist level.

No one can "make" you feel passion, but you can certainly try to inspire yourself to continue on with an interest.

Good luck  😄

Wow, i was not expecting such a leadership quality reply from any 3d forum. Thanks Cheyne. This is my first direct interaction from any 3d animator, thanks so much and i am certainly inspired. Its true, i dont have any passion and i have seen there is good money in it which is real reason. There is one more motive, until age of 28, i truly nothing did except watching moves at home and eating out, infact until age of 35 i never really worked except watching movies and wasting time. This whole experience of watching movies did one good thing to me, i became a good viewer. First 5 to 10mins of seeing any movie, i can tell is it quality one or not. I want to become a director, i love to be on the set instructing actors how to make expressions.

so maya is near to my dream, It gives me full freedom to make expressions and a gateway to show biz world. Its also true, no passion at all. But may be, i been practicing so far only object modelling, i havent yet completed my first model animation. I think, once i c my character model animating it will provoke my interest.

And certainly, i need to be inspired, very true of you, special thanks to you for this one. I am not from rich background but been lucky enough never got c really tough times. This is the main reason i am incredibly lacking of growth breakthroughs.

Participation in forums, i intuitively feel it will work for me. \

May i know, what was the first breakthrough i got in this field or first project? how did you come in this field ?

thanks, regards

If you love film, and want to make film, work on that. I know people who took on animation because they wanted to make movies, stories, without the hassle of having a full film crew and slew of actors. I'd suggest working on making short films to start with, if that's what really "get's you going".

I've loved animation since a child, and also technology. Those two things together have been in my mind for a long time, and it's the need/want to be a storyteller that has seen me to commit to study.

I'm just about to turn 35 myself, so as far as I'm concerned, it's never too late to start something. What's the worse that can happen? You make fail, maybe make a lot of mistakes before you do something good. At least you tried and don't grow old wondering "what if I actually did that thing I wanted to do".

Hi Chyne,

Now i must say, thankyou very much. Short films's idea i never thought of. I had been always wondering, how will i convince poduction companies' director producers to order me for making a movie in spite of their own staff includes 3D animators. What my reading is, Malaysian 3d animation industry is very small and limited, normally poduction companies consuming their 3d animators on making video commercials rather that movies. Why is that?

regarding short movie, yes, for media houses and event companies directors i can show them idea of short film. I can do b2b with them for advance as i am selling very hot products here.

Regarding Short films, can you please give ideas for story concept. Whats best to propose for short film? Mechanical move like Pacific Rim or a family drama or some other characters based drama?

Thanks regards

Forget about approaching film studios with your ideas until you refine your craft a bit. Guillermo Del Toro made films for near three decades before he made Pacific Rim.

Write what you know, what you enjoy. No point trying to make something that's "commercially viable". That'll just end in failure, unless you are a creative and storytelling genius.

I can't comment on the industry. I am only a student.

hi cheyne,

wow thats great, i gone thru very fast that basics you referred & result of which i been learning thru books since 2011 and online tutorials, not a single success. All the best.

The issue i mentioned, i think i got the remedy, i been trying the stealth way creating models, i been using zbrush to create human model with one click & drage, do some brushes and GoZ to maya, Pretty easy. now because of high polycount, unable to fix painting weights issues. I tried with maya geniun way like as should be, creating simple model with polygon, low polycount, did basic rigging, skinned it, tried painting weights, no issue at all, so **** accurate.

Now i need to create model in maya which is recommendable way, not the one i been doing it and paid the price offcourse.
