How can I distribute my model creating its copy in different scale and rotation ?

Hi everyone ,

I am looking for a way to recreate that two  roofs : tiles and wood sticks 

I am new to Maya , so for now I don’t have any solution .The only one idea I have it’s to manually distribute them which is obviously a bad one. 

I would be thankful for any advice or a reference.
