hi, i have a problem when i combine two meshes, one is a flat shaded patern and the other is smooth shaded fabric. when combined they dosent stay as intended, they both become smooth. is there anyway to fix this? is there a way to have a smooth surfece and a Sharp patern on it at the same time?

that seems to be a semi valuble option, but i was looking more for a way to have sharp edges while being on the "3" button option, seens it`s combined with fabric and fabric is smooth, but i still want the sharp metal mesh patern on the sleeves to stay sharp. any idea how to do that?
s sound strange. The smoothed version is smoothed by 3 key smooth preview?
Not really, what I’m trying to explain is that I want a select part of a smoothed mesh not to be smooth.
Explanation what I need it for
It’s to a character that has a golden star :star:️ pattern on the end of her fabric sleeve, except the the gold acts like fabric (because magic) and it must be made of polygons because it’s 3d ( therefore can’t be painted on). And sense fabric looks best in smooth shading and the pattern is meant to have sharp edges, it creates a dilemma when they are supposed to be combined together, cuz it causing them to only one of the and not both at the same time that I need
tldr: I want sharp edges/vertex on a specific part of a smoothed fabric mesh
Hi!
Please check the Maya online help for crease or just add more geometry to preserve detail when using Smooth Mesh Preview.
More geometri, the one thing i didn’t want to add, I guess it has to be a billion giga bite. Thanks for trying to help me guys, even if it didn’t work out.
Hi!
Sorry, why does crease not work?
Please provide more details about your issue, add screenshots and maybe a Maya scene-file.
On the smooth mesh preview option on the shape node there is an option to update number on subdivision in viewport. Set 4 or 5 subdivision, it should be smoother without glitch on the crease edges.
