Hiya,
I have created a simple plane and modelling an engine. However after I have duplicated a component and added edge tools to it, Maya freezes and crashes. I am a *bit*worried as I have bought a new PC with a very expensive graphics card. When Maya freezes it is using 41% of memory(730MB). For a simple model this surely shouldn't be happening? I have attached my project file(before I create this grouped object in case there are already too many things going on in Maya - there shouldn't be as I am following a course tutorial). Thanks,Sinead
Hi!
1. Delete history.
2. If this still happens, upload a scene-file just one step before this happens and tell what step is needed to reproduce this.
There's a trick that helps fix most Maya glitches. It's resetting the Maya preferences. Give that a try. Maybe it works for your case.
How much RAM do you have? Minimum requirements are 8 GB... sounds like you have 2 GB?

Oh sorry, I just misunderstood when you said 730 MB was 41% of memory. In fact 41% of memory total with all your apps is being used, so you have plenty spare. That's clearly not the issue. What graphics card do you have, and do you have the latest drivers?

I have this same problem, it happens in Maya 2018, 2019, & 2020..
I take a basic piece of geometry and start to add edge loops and Maya freezes. I have to start again, it just doesn't work..
I'm using an HP Z440 Workstation with 64 Gigs of Ram and an Nvidia Quadro M5000 graphics card..
So the question is why can't I add edge loops on any version of Maya on a highend computer even if I have everything set to default and reset the prefs folder.. ?
