FBX object deleting other objects

Hi,

I’ve been having an issue where I add on fbx file to a maya scene and when I try to add another different one, it imports the first fbx file again (despite clicking on a different fbx file) and removes all transformation and animation history. Am I importing it the wrong way or is there a setting I need to change? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

for some reason Maya will replace any FBX that has objects named the same as objects already in your scene. In order to avoid this problem, make sure your FBX objects have unique names.

example

you want to import an FBX file that has an object named "WhyDoesMayaDoDumbThingsLikeThis_1"

if you already have an object in your scene named "WhyDoesMayaDoDumbThingsLikeThis_1" then the new object will delete the old object.

So to fix the problem make sure you name the one you are importing to "WhyDoesMayaDoDumbThingsLikeThis_2" and so on.

Super annoying.
Change your FBX import settings to "Add" instead of "Add and update animation"
And always use 'import', don't drag/ drop into the viewport.
No idea why Maya behaves that way, seems like something namespaces should manage.
