Edge count - how can I see how many edges I have selected?

How can I get an edge count in Maya? If I select an edge loop and want to see how many edges are now highlighted? The poly count display is useless for anything except the number of vertices, since it considers all of the edges / faces in a selected item to be "selected".

Thanks.

Not sure what you mean. When I select an edgeloop, the HUD does indeed display the number of edges selected.

Well, this is damned odd. I opened a new scene, created a sphere and selected some edges. They showed up in the HUD, just like in the image you posted. Then I opened the original file I was working on and did the same thing to my car model. Nothing. Something wrong with the file, maybe?

Fortunately your screencap included a couple of clues. Since your viewcube is showing, that means you're using one of the legacy viewports instead of viewport 2.0. Also, it looks like you are in smooth mesh preview mode.

The legacy viewports will not show an edge count if you are in smooth mesh preview mode. (I bet if you select the car body and hit the '1' key, you'll get an edge count.

Also, if you do switch to viewport 2.0, your edge count in smooth mesh preview mode will be high, as it represents all of the edges involved in the subdivision. (I recommend leaving it off for an actual edge count.)
