Creating a 'handle' pipe.

I am new to Maya, so I'm still learning the basics. I was wonder how one might make a straight, horizontal pipe, but the ends curved vertically?

e.g. ,---------,

Hey,

if I have understood you correctly you want something like this:

Maybe there is another method using a curve creation method but I wouldn't know how to exactly create those curves. So this is what I did:

  1. Create a parallelogram via the polygon creation tool.
  2. extrude its face
  3. delete the back, front, and bottom face
  4. bevel the 2 edge edges and really crank up the divisions for a smoother curve (or you need to rebuild the curve)
  5. select the edges which are forming the wanted curve
  6. convert the edges to a curve via Modify -> Convert -> Polygon Edges to Curve and open the settings!
  7. Settings: Form = best guess and Degree = 1 Linear (that's why we needed a good resolution of the curve)
  8. with the selected curve open bonus tools -> modeling -> curve to tube mesh
  9. play around with the settings until you are happy
  10. Done!

Edit: I would suggest setting the length divisions within the curve to tube mesh settings to 1 otherwise you have unequally spaced out edge loops within your tube.

Here are pictures of some stages:pipe02.png
