Create Multiple Faces In One

I was watching a video on YouTube that desplays the modeling of a house. At around 1:20, the producer uses a technique to split one face into multiple and is automatically able to extrude them. Though he uses 3DS Max, I was hoping that someone would be able to describe how I'd be able to replicate the feat in Maya.

You can select the face you want, Mesh>Smooth exponentially - divisions to maybe 2...then select the edges created and do a small bevel, then select the inner face  the "Glass" and extrude inward.

That's fine for being able to create the many faces I need, but if for instance there are 200 windows, there's no way I'd want to take the time to select them all. Isn't there a way to automatically make the glass faces all highlighted?

Well now is going to get complicated, do they have a glass shader on them?...you could select shader "Select objects with material"...that would select all faces fro you.

Can you post a picture of the building model?

If you already have the divisions once you select the faces and extrude with 'keep faces together' toggled off. Scale them in, the will stay selected, then extrude again and pull/ push the faces in/out and you have all the windows within the "frames".
