Can you cut through an object using another object in Maya?

Hello everyone

I would like to cut through an object so I can embed another object in the cut in a manner similar to fitting a window in a wall. Using the Boolean tool, I ended up with both objects disappearing as reported and no given solutions resolved this problem: Objects disappear when performing boolean difference?

Please tell me if there is any tool you can use that works like the cut-through option of Autodesk Fusion 360 or any workarounds for the Boolean tool bug? Workarounds introduced elsewhere including duplicating a face of the object failed.

Spent hours trying out solutions given on other websites with no luck, so I created the models to be booleaned all over again which worked straight away. Not sure why deleting the history and cleaning them up did not resolve the problem.
