Can not delete or select edges in maya

I'm new to Maya and I can't delete the edges or select the edges in the normal way and I don't know how to deal with this. Below are my scene files and pictures to show the problems

Hi,

It sounds like it could be graphics driver related.

Things to try.

1) If you are on Windows try going into Windows > Settings/Preferences > Preferences > Display and change your Viewport 2.0 Rendering Engine (at the bottom) to DirectX 11 and restart Maya. (DirectX 11 can be a bit more forgiving than OpenGL when it comes to graphics card drivers)  

2) Check and update your graphics card drivers to the certified version for your graphics card and version of Maya

Hi!

Please skip the suggestion from @brentmc 

You have multiple faces on top of each other and the edge is connected to multiple faces, so you need to clean up your mesh before any further edits

If you try to move the lower edge of the inner face (multiple times) you get this:

At first I recommend to use in Modeling menu:

Mesh > Merge, but then you still need to remove some faces manually.

Again, you don't need to try the solution from @brentmc , he assumed a GPU issue (without checking the file), which is not the case here, so this will not help. This is a mesh specific issue, so you need to correct the mesh, there is no other option.

Ya, I also think so, but another problem to me is that my laptop just turns very hot (60-70C) and the cool fans just speed up and make noise, I'm very uncomfortable about that. Do you think my laptop is very weak and needs to change to a desktop computer with higher performance? I'm using this guy:

you have multiple overlapping faces on top of each other. remove them

If the laptop gets too hot it's not a problem of being to weak in general, it's only the cooling that's not appropriate.

With higher performance you get even more heat and need an even better cooling, but desktop computers are of course a better choice (more space and easier to cool down).

You are right, I am going to build a new desktop for running better. Laptop just sometimes is a little inapposite.
