Boolean Breaking Mesh

I have had this same problem on multiple objects now. Nothing I do seems to fix it. Whenever I boolean 2 objects together with either union or difference I get this problem. The edges look fine and so do the UVs but the mesh is messed up. What is happening to my mesh and how do I fix it?

Hi!

I don't see anything breaking.

If you are talking about the problems with the normals, you need to correct this manual, or you can try

Remesh and Retopologize (new in Maya 2020).

I recommend to avoid using Booleans, in most cases there are better ways to build a specific shape with better control of the topology.

The problem I'm getting is easiest to see in the first image. The other images show that the mesh looks ok, but something definitely gets messed up after the boolean operation. Its not just a lighting bug because it stays with the model when I export it to other programs.

Hi!

This is normal, a Boolean creates one new combined mesh which behaves different as 2 single meshes.

For solutions, check my first answer.
