Bevel creating bad topology

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone could help me with my problem. I am working on a tank model and im not sure if what im doing is right. Im trying to get a few edged to be beveled but its ruining the topology and is making faces distorted. Its making sharp edges at corners too because its creating triangles at points. Can someone please help and explain what im doing wrong? Is it my own bad topology.

Please see the attached pictures to see what the problem is.

Thanks

You should not bevel like this, you have too many subdivisions for such a small detail I would recommend a bevel shader.

stop the modeling for a moment and upload the tank scene and tank reference.

Hi!

I recommend to use Bevel at a last step, maybe also with fewer subdivisions which allow for manual corrections.

If you have a clean model with a very good topology you can also try OpenSubdiv (Smooth Mesh Preview)  + Crease.

You can of course also try a bevel shader as suggested by @damaggio , that's a very fast and easy method, but it will not allow individual settings per edge.
