Bake Pivot Orientation Problem

Bake Pivot Orientation Problem

Hi,

Did anyone got the issue that maya 2016 (SP 1) freezes or takes extremely long time to bake orientation pivot?

It depends on the polycount (the more polys, the more time it needs to bake). In my case i have converted CAD Data.

Can´t depend on my system i think... I use 48 Cores with 48GB Ram and K5200..

Yup. I just tried it on an object that has ~65,000 polys, and it took 2-3 minutes to bake the pivot orientation. Interestingly, CPU usage was very low during the process.

In addition to that problem, i have to reverse the normals after baking pivot.. i don´t understand why

Hi,

This is a known issue. See this thread for some possible workarounds:

Just an update to say the Bake Pivot performance issue is fixed in Maya 2022.1

This is an update: The issue still exists on polys <250000

Hi,

Bake pivot is applying a transform onto the geometry so it will be slower if your mesh is very large and contains construction history.

Is it easy to reproduce as I do not find the performance unacceptable on a dense sphere with > 250,000 faces?

Well it depends what you mean unacceptable. Most of the times it just hangs for more than 10mins on an i7, 16gb ram, and nvidia 3070. I haven't actually seen it go all the way through, perhaps the complexity of my obj is an issue?

It took a few seconds when I tried it here on a dense sphere.

Are you on version 2022.1 or higher? (because the performance you are describing sounds like pre 2022.1)

Also, have you tried deleting history on your object first?

Yes I'm on the latest version and I will check if deleting history helps. Thanks
