I have to first apologise for this kind of time wasting, this is the 4th model I've ever worked on and there's a lot of painful mistakes and habits I'm trying to work on. I've tried to google this issue but I really don't understand any of the terminology and I'm ultimately completely stuck on this.

Attached is a model I've made, upon exporting it into either .fbx or .obj I keep finding small issues with the model. In the .png I've attached is the error that occurs when it's a .fbx and it's also in this spot that one of the .obj errors occurs where there's simply a hole in the model. Also on the .obj is lots of errors with the fans, on the vehicle's top, with the "hole" being covered partially or wholly depending on how what program I use to open the .obj.

Is there any way to preserve the work I've done and get it exported safely? I've never had any issue with my other models and they weren't simple either. I'm aware I'm buggered up comprehensively, I don't think I should even try to explain what the hell I've done in the Outliner.

I'm just hoping someone can see some simple error in the model or exporting process that I've missed, because at this point I'm just stumped.

Hope you can help,

Hugh

I've done some further work, and I remodeled the "Cupola" so that it was separate to the rest of the submarine. I'm getting the same kind of issue just in different places now.

In the first attachment to this comment shows where circles I cut into the front have gone awry (sorry that it's quite hard to see), and in the second where on the cupola on the right there's this new face drawn where it shouldn't be, on the left it's how it should be as a comparison.

Hopefully that's some better evidence as to the issue I'm having.Issues with the cut circles.Issues with the cut circles.Issues with the viewing port, the error is on the right.Issues with the viewing port, the error is on the right.

Hi!

The problems are Ngons and overlapping objects/faces.

1. Remove "inner / hidden" faces that can't be seen

2. Subdivide (maybe triangulate) parts of your mesh where necessary,

or simply triangulate the whole object.

Thanks a ton! Like I said I understand pretty much nothing about modeling, for I am very much not a technical person.

I couldn't find a solution for removing the hidden faces automatically, and while right now I'm honestly just wanting to be lazy I will keep that in mind in future.

The triangulation is what did the trick and the googling that came with that has done learnt me some interesting things, so thanks again! This is all going into an animation which undoubtedly you'll have no interest in, but at the very least I'll make sure to pop you in the credits as thanks 😛
