Hi Autodesk experts,

I'm teaching Maya...just upgraded from 2020.1 to 2022.1 on my Mac, and discovered that the 3D Cut and Sew UV tool is not working properly. I've used this tool alot, and it works wonderfully in 2020.1, but hardly at all in 2022 or 2022.1 Here is a link to a very short video showing what is happening: https://vimeo.com/581391146/68b27d3ab4

I need a resolution to this for my students as well, so I hope I can get an answer.

Thanks.

Al

Hi!

The problem seems to be that you mouse position is not recognized correct. Check your video at 1:08, you can clearly see that edge highlight is offset compared to your mouse position.

That's a great observation. I saw that too, but how do I fix it? If I get an edge selected, and hit the X key, it still doesn't cut.

Hi!

I doubt I can help you further with this.

Please report this problem (bug?) to Autodesk.
In Maya main menu:
Help -> Feedback -> Report a Problem

You can also contact Autodesk Support.

Hello,

I do see the problem you are having, so I tried to re-create it. Double check the following:

From WINDOWS>SETTINGS/PREFERENCES>PREFERENCES>SELECTION> Make sure that PRESELECTION HIGHTLIGHT is enabled (checked), listed under the MODIFIERS section (screen cap included below). Also maybe try adjusting PRESELECT SIZE slider. This may be a workaround until it can be addressed through an update?

Just a thought, good luck!

Hello,

I am unable to reproduce this problem in any version of 2022 on Mac or Win whether preselect highlighting is on or off. Which leads me to believe (and I hate to say this), perhaps something in your preferences has become corrupt. Have you tried renaming your 2022 prefs and started with fresh one's? Thank you, Catherine

Hi Catherine,

Thanks for checking into this issue. I replaced the preferences with new ones. No change. I played with the pre-select size settings, making it smaller, and larger. It doesn't fix it. I also tried updating my OS to Big Sur. No difference.

That is interesting that you couldn't recreate the issue on a Mac with 2022. Just to test whether it is this specific Mac (MacBook Pro 2016) with the issue, I also just downloaded and installed it on a MacBook Air. I encountered the same exact issues. So, I believe it is a bug.

I've installed 2022 on my PC. It works perfectly. So, it's not keeping me from using Maya 2022 right now. I'm just concerned about it for teaching, as it seems that my students who are Mac users will run into the same issue when I start teaching them how to create UVs with this tool. I'm having them us 2020 right now, but I don't want to have to tell them down the road in 2023 that they still need to use version 2020. 🙂

I hope you can keep looking into this issue for me. I have over 100 students/year learning Maya, and half of them are Mac users.

Thanks,

Al

Hi!

I doubt it has been resolved, but it seems not to be related to the Preferences.

It seems to be a specific issue for Maya 2022 on a Mac.

I'm having the same issue (on macOS Big Sur 11.5.1). 3D Cut and Sew works great in Maya 2020.4, but is unusable (as per the video above) in Maya 2022.1.

Set the envVar:

QT_MAC_WANTS_BEST_RESOLUTION_OPENGL_SURFACE=0

and see if that helps.

I believe the cursor offset you are experiencing may be due to the HighDPI support we turned on on Maya 2022.n for Mac.

To set an envVar you can either:

- cmd + spacebar and type: Terminal

- set the envVar here via: export QT_MAC_WANTS_BEST_RESOLUTION_OPENGL_SURFACE=0
- then start Maya from Terminal: /Application/Autodesk/maya2022/Maya.app/Contents/MacOS/Maya
NOTE: This only works for that instance of the terminal, you'll have to redo this if you close the terminal
or

- you could try going to the /Applications/Autodesk/maya2022/Maya.app location then Get Info on Maya.app and check the checkbox that says: 'Open in Low Resolution' and see if that works.

I have identified a problem where this envVar doesn't seem to work if we append it to the maya2022/Maya.env file so I will log a defect against that.

Let us know if any of this^ works to eliminate that cursor offset when using the tool.

Awesome!! That worked like magic. For any other Mac users out there, just checking the "open in low resolution" in the get info panel solved the problem. Thanks so much Autodesk support. This will show all of my students that it may take awhile, but Autodesk works hard to offer support through their forums. Thanks again.

Hi! I don't have an "open in low resolution" option there. Is there any other way?

I have the exact same problem and I do not have the "open in low resolution" option available either. Any news on this?

Make sure you are getting info on the actual application (Select the app icon in the application folder) and not on an alias of the app.
