Viewing obj and fbx content

I was wondering if anyone can help me set up a preset browser similar to the one available in Modo.  I know about the Content Browser but it does not allow me to preview obj or fbx files. (I've tried saving and selecting preview thumbnail in fbx settings) but it does not allow me to view the file.

So in the attached image, within Modo, there is a folder of obj files which can be viewed as thumbnails and dragged into a scene.  Is there a way to set something similar up in Maya?

Hi @Anonymous,

While there may be some third party plug-ins that offer this functionality, I'm not aware of this being a supported option in base(native) Maya. Sounds like a great suggestion for the Maya idea forums!

Hi!

1. Check Content Browser.

2. Check Maya Bonus Tools / Layout Tools

Hi @alec.andersenLP8AU

Thank you for following up.  I will have to follow the link to Bonus Tools and see if the layout tools option will work

for what i'm trying to do.

@alec.andersenLP8AU

Hi Alec,

so it looks like the layout tools included in Bonus tools are about as close as i can get to what i'm looking for.

It will take a lot of work on my part to bring all the obj or fbx files i would like to use and convert them to a .ma format.

Doesn't appear that layout will see anything other than a .ma or .mb?

But this is great to get a response!

Thanks again!
