UV Editor not displaying UVs.

Hey there,

I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me with an issue I'm receiving.

For my school project, we have to model and texture an environment. This was perfectly fine up until a few days ago. I don't believe I touched anything, but for no reason that I can find my UV's stopped displaying in the UV Editor.

I've tried reinstalling/repairing Maya, uninstalling and reinstalling completely, resetting the preferences, even exporting as an .fbx, .obj, and re-importing. Nothing seems to work or fix the issue.
I'm using Maya 2017 for this, and opening my file in an earlier version also doesn't help with the issue.

The weird thing is that if I make a new mesh, the UV Editor will work with it.
This causes an issue for me, though, as I don't have the time to completely remodel, UV, and texture every little thing.

I've attached an image that shows off the issue.

A quick note: On the image Isolate Select is on. I tried switching it off/on/off/on/etc. unfortunately this didn't help one bit.

(Also if someone knows the email address for support, please let me know as I'm having difficulty finding it.)

Hi

Please check in UV -> UV Set Editor how many Sets are applied and if the correct one is selected.

If this doesn't help please upload a scene-file with at least one object that shows this behavior and i will check if there are some UV's left.

Hey

Thanks for the reply.

I've never used UV Set Editor so I'm sorry if I've done this incorrectly.

I opened it up and there weren't any sets? Although selecting an object (any object) puts map1 into the list. However the UV Editor still shows nothing.

The weird thing is that my tutor opened it up in his Maya 2017, and the UV Editor was working completely fine for him.

I've uploaded a scene file with a simple mesh, this mesh is one of the ones causing an issue.

Hi!

I can see the UV's and if you can see the textures in Viewport the UV's will be used also on your system.

As i can see the UV's i have no chance to test some workarounds to make them visible for you.

Please try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2017 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything,

the folder 2017 to 2017_backup. Maya creates new folders. Detailed at:

I believe that's a bug for some, I hope they are looking into it  however is not addressed on SP2.

Hi!

This is really strange, could you  please post your system specs (at least Graphic Card, OS).

what you may also try:

1. An update of the graphic card diver.

2. Add some new geometry to the models (and undo later). Does this make UV's visible at first and maybe after undo step?

3. Add a new UV mapping (and undo later). Does this make UV's visible at first and maybe after undo step?

Please report this problem (bug?) to Autodesk.

Hey there,

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy with assessments.

I'm not sure what caused it but the issue has actually solved itself. The UVs are working perfectly fine now.

I am having the exact same problem. Maya 2017 Update 1. Any ideas why the UV editor will not display any UVs?

Thanks for any help

-Sean

This issue has been reported to Autodesk , hopefully they are working on this, usually in my machine I just close and reopen so I can see the uvs again... hopefully.
You can still select them in the uv editor without seeing them... although that is good for nothing.
Hopefully update 3 will fix that.

I have tried the suggestions in previous posts and I have the same recurring problem with disappearing UV's.  One thing I noticed in my scenes with multiple objects, that the first object with UV's appears, but subsequently created objects disappear.

There are sooo many problems concerning uvs that i really would not worry too much about it. We just need to wait until update 3 is up. But even then... i dont think they are going to fix everything that is wrong right now. It is a total mess, unfortunately (and im not talking only about the uv stuff..).

I myself had several times problems related with uving. The worst thing about it is, that in a couple of times, i had this very same problem. Uvs dissapearing. And i just wasted another whole day making em again. I thought it was just another bug, and i didnt have any other option. At least im glad to know this is a recurrent bug that is being investigated. Also another recurrent problem with uvs is that the uv editor sometimes just will not allow me to interact with any uv at all. But, whatever.. lol.

I know this is an old thread but I found a work-around to this issue.

If you create a new scene then File > Import your previous scene, all UVs should appear. You can then save as a new version of your scene and continue working from there.

Hope this helps,

-J

Already tried that, it didnt work. Well, it worked in one of the meshes, in the others, it didnt. Anyways, if that was the only problem.. but since i cant even make uvs because the uv editor will never let me.. it really doesnt matter. Anyways i just gave up on maya temporary, i have too many headaches with maya 2017 and i cant waste hours and days doing thigns that should take minutes or hours. I will probably return on update 5.. or in 2018 to see if something was fixed.

Its just another bug from maya 2017, not fixed and agravated in update 3. I suffer it a lot of times, and its the main reason (between others) that led me to just avoid maya 2017 for now.

Hello damaggio,

This happened to me as well, is it at all possible that "Isolate select" was enabled in the UV editor?
I was cutting and sewing UVs and needed to isolate some shells, then when I selected another object, the UVs were not displaying in the UV editor but the pre selection highlight did. Turning off isolate selected solved the Issue.

I'm not claiming this is what your problem is , but the similarity made me think it could be the case.
