Unfolding UV's

Hi everyone,

 

I am running into some issues with UV mapping in maya. I am basically trying to take the mesh shown in the lefthand side, unwrap properly. What is shown in the righthand side is a simple Normal-Based unwrapping.

Does anybody have any suggestions? This seems like a pretty straightforward thing to do but I'm not sure what is going on.

select uv´s (in uv editor) modify > unfold and modify > layout if necessary.

Hi Sebastian, I was unable to make this method work (probably something to do with the way I modeled it) but I did find a workaround to the problem. I was able to import the fbx with the uv layout that I wanted (the same one as above).
