Strange behavior with "ignore selection priority" in Maya 2017 update 2

Since I did the mistake to install update 2 yesterday I experience this strange selection behavior:

With the Global Selection Pref "ignore selection priority" enabled, Maya doesn't pay attention to the selection mode anymore. This means e.g. when I explicitly go to component selection by F8 to select some vertices on a mesh, all objects the marquee hits will be also selected. Please someone tell me, I am doing something wrong here.

That sounds like it is working as it was designed to work.  Meaning it will not prioritize any objects or components, it will select what ever it can.  In object mode, it will select any object you click, so it won't select bones or other objects that are in the background which have a higher priority.  As for components, it will select all the components and the objects around them.  This is the same behavior in Maya 2016 as well.

Wrong. The feature took the selection mode into account ever since. It did so in 2017 and 2016 and all previous versions. Somebody broke it in Update 2, maybe already Update 1. I didn't install that one.

Again: you have to explicitly switch to component mode by <F8> NOT by marking menu.

I get the same behavior with F8 as I do with the marking menu and hot box.  Please send me a video with the difference, I might not be getting what you are trying to tell me.  Thanks

There is a video in the docs which shows how F8 should behave when "To Select Components". And it did so until now.
http://help.autodesk.com/view/MAYAUL/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-5C5F2B9B-BE16-4C49-B72B-70EA7CB4C688

As you can see the component selection does NOT select other surrounding objects when using F8. Btw this would be also a strange concept to have a object-component-multi-selection functionality as the default behaviour.

(However you get this behavior by setting component filters directly by the RMB marking menu without first switching to component by F8 which is and was alwas a strange thing by itself btw)

In Maya 2017 Update 2 it still works as shown in the help video WHEN you are using the selelection priority feature (Ignore Selection Priority = off) which is the default pref setting. But if you go with "Ignore Selection Priority" it suddenly doesn't behave anymore as shown in that help video. All surrounding objects would get selected too. This is "new".

I do apologize for my delay, and thank you for the detailed video.. You are correct, I will log this with our development team as a defect.  Cheers
