SMOOTHING HEXAGONIC CYLINDER

HI, I reduced the subdivision axis of a cylinder to 6 to create a Hex nut but when smoothing out with supporting edges it doesn't maintain the hex shape but goes back to the cylindrical one. Any solution?

Could you give me a visual example to create one with a good topology and that retains the hexagonal shape after smoothing if it wouldnt be a bother?

Loops.pngThanks for adding the images, you've placed edge loops horizontally but you didn't place any vertically,  that's why the shape collapses.

You can find more about SubD modeling tips for hard surface objects on youtube, with practice you will learn when to use SubD or not and how to achieve the best topology.

You can also use bevel or do it in the shader.
