Selection problem 2017

I just installed Maya 2017 and am working in a scene with multiple object in close proximity. It seems that my cursor now selects objects when it hovers off to the side and not necessarily when it is hovering directly over it. I have attached a picture that shows this strange behavior. It makes it very difficult to model and selects objects in tight spaces so solving this will definitely be a huge help!

Hi!

Please go to Windows -> Settings/Preferences -> Settings -> Selection and try setting values that better fits your needs.

Hi!

Can you please try the following to see if it makes a difference...

1. Try the same with the legacy viewports

2. Select the camera (View -> Select Camera)  and in Camera Attributes set the value for Far Clip Plane to a lower value, try lowering to a value just before your objects disappear.

or even better can you upload a file where this happens?

Uploaded are the scene and a video of my clicking around trying to find the area and angle where selection would work.
Changing viewport to legacy ones presumably helps - though it's not a viable solution.
Changing far clip plane settings doesn't seem to help. I'm using a script that sets some comfortable camera and mesh display values. It has proved to be the happy middle ground for dozens of projects with different model scales. So, in my opinion it's a glitch of viewport 2.0

Hi!

Please report this problem (bug?) to Autodesk.
Help -> Speak Back -> Report a Problem

Workaround:

A) Using the 3 key  (smooth mesh preview) on the background model seems to make it easier to select the foreground object.

B) Use Display Layers to make some objects not selectable ( Display Type: Reference)

Try changing your Preferences > Display > Rendering Engine  to DirectX 11 and restarting Maya.

Thanks.
