Not a model guy here. Any idea how to reduce the polygon count for what looks like a Lidar scanned model. Tried reduce, says first use cleanup, but that does not seem to do anything. Help. See attached.

Try these settings.....then reduced 70% ended up with about 26300 faces. If you want more you can then quadrangulate it gets reduced to 15840  faces....and then retopologize if needed and bake the high detail into the low one if desired.

Thank you damaggio for responding.

After Cleanup with settings you showed (see screenshot), I still get this error message when I hit Mesh->Reduce:

// Error: line 0: Cannot reduce polygonal object with nonmanifold geometry. Cleanup the object using Mesh->Cleanup before reducing.

How can this work so simply for you and not for me? What am I missing? Using Maya 2023 for Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor 3.40 GHz, 64.0 GB RAM

try checking all Fix by tesselation also. I can give you the mesh but I believe you can do it on your side.

another thing that can help is to do a small merge vertices first, then run the operations.

it works here also with clean up default settings but just tick the Nonmanifold box.

Thanks for offering the model, but this is one of numerous scroll objects that need to be fixed.

"try checking all Fix by tesselation also"

I don't see that as a choice in cleanup options. Sorry for being so dense.

Figured out what I was doing wrong. You have to delete the history first before using the Reduce function. Thanks for you help.
