Random holes appearing and disappearing after Extract-Command

Hi Maya community,

I'm new to the scene and working on my first model of a car (project for my class). Now i have encountered some problems with my model when i try to use the extract-command.

Made a couple of Screenshots to show you the issue.

Here is my model, nothing happend so far:

Next i wanted to extract one of the side-windows:

Notice the missing Face on the hood? I did not do that. Ok next Side window:

The hole in the hood went missing, but I got new ones on the frontwindow and the roof.
So next i extract a portion of the front window, maybe I can select the hole:

I certainly cant, but it suddenly fills after the extract, the Face on the roof aswell. Sadly there is a new hole, right behind the upper antenna.

I cant use the "Fill hole"-command. I also tried to fill the holes by extruding one of the edges and snipping the verteces but for some reason it gives me bad geometry (non-manifold).

Also there is another thing, but I don't know if its connected to the first problem.
I cant go into Vertex-Face mode. Maya will crash if i try it, giving me this error-message:

Fatal Error. Attempting to save in C:/Users/User/AppData/Local/Temp/User.20170122.1313.ma
Interestingly I can do it in older saves of the project.

I'm at a loss here. If someone can help, I would really appreatiate it. Thanks in advance.

Hi. it sounds like there is some bad topology in there somewhere. Try use the poly cleanup tool and just go ahead and merge all your verts where you can. I like to 'show face centers' and you can quickly see if there are any collapsed faces that might be causing a problem.

If you wanted to attach your mesh here I am sure someone on here will figure out what is going on with it 🙂
