Question About Curves and Image Planes

Hi.

For some reason, upon re-opening a file, the curves are visible in the outliner but not onscreen. High-lighting a curve in the outliner and activating a tool will show its location but it always appears to have been reduced to a single point.

Also, the color slider is 'locked/linked' (see attached).

Does something need to be checked/unchecked? Why is this a repeat occurrence?

Also, I am unable to Freeze Transformations on my Image Plane. Clicking the function produces no result.
