Procedural Planet Creation

Hello!

So I am a bit new to Maya and have been watching tutorials online and learning how to model and such. With that comes this idea I had for creating a planet, but doing so using noise maps.  Like in the videos below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO7gyj2ay5E&t=9s

or in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dM9HwgitbqQ&t=101s

Now, after hours of searching online, I can't seem to figure out how to recreate the same effect in Maya, with Redshift or V-ray, both with respect to creating geometry and color (not the exact same colors in the videos, just how they go about putting color on the models).

When ever I try adding a  texture deformer to a sphere and hook a noise into it, for one it only seems like there is only a few types of noises as compared to 3DS Max and C4D, two, I would have now idea how in Hypershade to go about putting color onto the models the same way that is done in the videos, and three, where ever I do add a noise it scrunches at the polls of the sphere (see attached picture) and I tried playing around with creating a spherical UV and moving it around but that doesn't see to fix the problem. I am not sure if that is just because it has to to with UV mapping to a sphere or what. Every tutorial I find related to noise and deformation textures is always on a plane. So all in all, I am stumped and not sure where to go from here. I mean is there something I am not getting on how Noise works in Maya vs other programs? Could someone at least point in the right direction.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi!

You can create planets in Maya.

Use 3D Textures:

(or create a more suitable UV mapping)
