Problem with normals!

Hi!

I'm currently modeling a human face. The way I've set it up I've modeled the mouth separate from the face and I'm attaching them to one another as I finish building them. I've run into an issue when I'm trying to connect these two pieces. The normals on the edge that connects the two pieces are very pronounced, and I can't seem to make a smooth transition between them.

I've tried resetting my normals by selecting my mesh and hitting Normals-> Set to face -> Match face normal, and then smoothing the angle, as well as trying to adjust the topology to make for a smoother transition, but so far it has done nothing: I still end up with a very noticable edge around where the mouth and face connect. Any idea on how I can fix this?

The mouth has inverted normals, under the viewport window "Lighting" uncheck "two side lighting" leave it always like that so when you model if anything is inverted it will show up black (which is the inside of the shape).

To fix the mouth go to top menu bar "Normals>reverse.

Also as a note start using .ma instead of .mb.

Good luck.

Thanks! That fixed it. Out of interest, why is .ma better than .mb?

As you do more and more 3d work over the months and years ahead eventually some horrible think could happen to an important file that won't open anymore and the only way will be to open the file in a text editor and try to locate the problem and deleted it so you can recover most of the work, mb files don't let you do that and its important when working for a studio or any professional job you might have, just to be safe.
