Pivot point temporarily moves away from object while moving object

I encountered a strange problem with the move tool that seems to occur randomly, which is the following:

Each time I click and drag any of the arrows to move a selected object, the object moves in the direction it should. However, the pivot point (along with the selected arrow) moves away from the object along a different axis while I drag the mouse to move my object. This happens only for as long as I hold down the left mouse button and drag; as soon as I release the left mouse button the pivot point automatically restores itself to the center of the object.

The issue occurs rarely. Restarting Maya doesn't seem to fix it. Up until now the problem seems to have resolved itself each time while Maya was running. Or could it be that I enabled/disabled a setting by accidentally hitting a wrong key?

Anyway, it's not an obstructive issue since I can still move my objects the way I want, but it does get a little annoying sometimes, so if there are ways to fix this or prevent this from happening, I would like to know about them. Thanks.

Can you try to reset the Move Tool, esp. the Axis Orientation and Transform Constraints?

Does this also happen in the Rotate and Scale Tool?

The last time I had this problem it seemed to have solved itself after some time (perhaps switching between tools caused some of the Move Tool's settings to reset to their default state?) However, I can't reset the Move Tool until the problem occurs again. When it does, I'll make sure to see if it works, though.

I only have this problem with the Move Tool; the Rotate and Scale Tool appear to work just fine. Their pivot points remain at their initial position in the process of rotating/scaling.
