Object display in black while revolving a CV curve

Hello,

I am a beginner here.

When I revovle a CV curve, the object is displayed in black.

I try to use Reverse the Normal, but Maya said

// Error: line 0: Current selection doesn't match required selection type.

How do I turn the object back to the gray color?

Did you do it as nurbs?....do it again  with polygons instead,.

Thanks.   That works.

Do you know how to maintain all object display in Gray color?

Right now, most Nurbs are created in Black first in my current setting.

How to keep everything in gray color when they are created?

Hi,
You have two simple options to correct that, just after creating your surfaces:

- reverse the direction of the on of the (construction) curves. Caveat: you should have History activated (it's On by default, unless you deliberately switch it off). Access this command via the Curve menu, obviously... or for a shortcut way of getting to this command you can also select the curve(s), hold SHIFT and right-click to pop up the contextual curves menu, then "reverse direction".

- second option: reverse the direction of the surface itself, from the Surfaces menu.

If it helps, I have recently made a video for a friend. It covers this (amongst other things), even though I create Surfaces that are immediately converted into polygon when created:

Well there's a solution under the panels Lighting>Two sided lighting...this way the viewport will always show nurbs or polys as greys...but you really don't want that..it's important to know that somehow the mesh is reversed=blacks...so leave Lighting>unchecked and reverse the mesh once you notice the black look.

As peregrine points, use reverse for Nurbs and Reverse normals for polygons under mesh display.

Okay.  Eventually, I use polygons and nurbs for this practice.

Here is the turntable of the preview.

I also want to add some smoke effects.  That will be another challenge.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge.  It really helps a lot on understanding Maya. 🙂
