Noob question...

I have an obj file and I would like to seperate it into induvidual parts.

I edit the model in UVSHELL mode and I can select the induvidual parts, but when I try "export selected" it does not export anything but a blank file.

Also it has a default UV layout but I want to create a new one. How do I delete the default UV's?

I have attached a screenshot as well as the Maya File.

Thanks for any help.

Select the faces you want to separate..example the shirt ..then Edit Mesh>Extract

About the current UV you can just create a new one it will override make sure there's only one UV map UV Editor>UV Sets map 1.

I just looked at the UVs , is well made and organized, I would not touch that, if you dont have the textures it would be just easy to take into photoshop and create a new one....doing a new UV as good as this one will take some time.

I'd go with what damaggio said and try selecting the faces and Edit Mesh>Extract. You can also try Mesh>Separate, which will separate all the different pieces of the model into different polymeshes.
