hello. Have been learning high polygon these days. Is it what it suppose to look like? Am I on the right direction?

Hello, I think it is looking pretty detailed and has defined form. It looks like a futuristic hand cannon of some sort. My suggestions are: Try to keep in quads and evenly spaced as possible geometry. I try to keep as basic as possible and use Maya or Mudbox's Subdivision (smoothing) capabilities to turn my low poly into high poly. This makes it easier to transfer details using textures and 'tricking' the details on the low poly model, and can be turned into a low poly model easily. There are mannny different ways to model (different industries, different methods), but in the end, add materials, lighting, and then how good it looks in the final render, is what matters. :))
