Moving rope attached to curve problem

Hi

I'm an beginner in maya and have just started creating ropes. When I try to move the curve attached to the rope or group them togheter

and then move them I bump in to the problem shown in the picture. I don't know if it's because I didn't do the extrude right or because I'm not grouping the mesh and curve in the right way. I haven't really found an answer to this and have tried multiple different groupings but none work. I'm using maya 2016 if that matters.

When moving the curve the starting face doesn't move along with everything else

Hi!

You can't move both without distorting the object. Move the result object only, as long as the curve is part of the history the resulting mesh will deform if you move the curve.

If you want an extrude that is totally driven by the curve and the movement of the curve you have to start with curve / nurbs modeling and convert the object later to Polygons (But even than you have to move 2 objects, the path and the profile curve, but these can be grouped)

Ok, thanks for the fast replies. Is there a possible way to then detach the curve from the resulted object. So that I don't have a floating curve in the middle of nowhere?

Hi!

With Polygon object selected:

Edit -> Delete by Type -> History

this "bakes" the edits to the selected object and removes the influence of the curve.

(Should be done every now and then)
