Move tool stuck on slide mode - SOLVED

Hi,

whenever I try to move vertex or edges in maya 2018 my move tool only slides the vertex rather than giving me full control. How to I turn this feature off as I can't seem to switch it off. Have tried resetting maya preferences.

it's been a while since I fixed it but I think I did:

ctrl+shift+right click on the vertex , go to transform constraints and make sure edge slide is off.

For MAC users it's Command+shift+right click

i understand this is a rather old thread, but why? how? i practically just opened maya and somehow this was turned on? thankyou stranger from the past

Another good way to solve this is to simply reset the tool.
