Hi All,
I am an engineering student and my skills in AutoCAD and Maya are very much beginner only. I am trying to draw a screw in Maya and I started with a 2D AutoCAD drawing, which I will show here:
Screw in AutoCAD 2D
I have started to model it in Maya and my first thought was to draw the thread using Helix and so far here is what I've got:
polyHelix1:
Coils = 16 (the number of thread peaks in drawing),
Height = 27.21 (the distance peak to peak of the first and last threads in mm),
Width = 5.4 (the major diameter of the screw thread in mm),
Radius = ????,
Subdivision = 3 (threads are traingular).
What should I be setting the radius to in order to get the correct model of the thread?
The thread is 60 degrees and the distance from the tip of the screw to where it meets the screw body is 0.66mm.
Using AutoCAD to show the cross-section of the thread:
If I input 0.76 into the radius it looks way off, but if I put in half that value at 0.38 it looks sort of accurate.
Can someone please tell me how radius works and what the correct answer is? This is what my thread looks like in Maya so far:
I appreciate all help thank you!
